The Security Apparatus Hates Intelligence and Ethics

The incompetent CIA completely screwed over saintly Jimmy Carter.  First, they pretty much caused the Iranian revolution by helping to overthrow the democratically-elected government of Iran because it wanted to share a portion of the country's oil wealth with its desperately-poor citizens.  They installed the venal Shah and helped his horrific SAVAK to terrorize and torture the people of Iran for decades.  Then they completely doomed the convoluted hostage rescue plan by having the US Army helicopters and cargo planes refuel next to a road instead of a deserted area because that's where they were familiar with from dropping off and picking up assets.  As if the people driving on that road wouldn't notice a major US military operation going on for hours at a time - classic CIA incompetence!

Then again, Carter was the last president to try to stand up to their terror and abuses, so perhaps it wasn't unintentional.
